Hello One of famous leaders Hunkpatila was Yellow Eagle . However, his family is not usually mentioned. Dear experts, do you have any information on the following issues: Who was his father? Who was his brothers / sisters, and how many children he had.
Thank you

According to my Oglala interviews, the Yellow Eagle dynasty stretch back in unbroken line to the 'first' Yellow Eagle, born roughly in the frame 1700-1710. His father was Buffalo Shield, the Hunkpatila band chief from about 1710 into the 1740s. The Hunkpatila band is very old, and unlike other Oglala bands has no historic associations with the woodlands. It was always identified with the prairie.
By generational dead-reckoning there were probably Yellow Eagles born c. 1735, 1760, 1785, 1810, 1835. The last two we can see in the historic record. The man born c. 1810 died after a riding accident in 1870. His son was an older contemporary of Crazy Horse's. He was the pipe-owner (war leader) in the December 6th, 1866 raid on Ft Phil Kearny.
