Can somebody post a link to the original discussion regarding this photo? I don't know if it was on the Lakota or Oglala group page. It was posted on this site two or three years ago. Does anybody know where is this original photo? This image appears to have been taken from some kind of European publication. Can somebody make out the caption on this photo? Thanks for helping. Wyman.

The caption is in French and says - in rough translation - that Native Americans are exposed at the universal exposition in 1893 (Chicago) or - more likely - 1898 (Paris)

Thanks gregor and grahamew. I'd still like to find the original discussion re. this photo, and I REALLY want to find where the actual photo is located. Any suggestions?

"On March 20, 1894, Lillie received authorization to take a group of Indians from Rosebud Reservation or Lakota Sioux from South Dakota to the Antwerp Exposition in Belgium. The Red Star Line steamer Illinois took 25 Sioux Indians to Belgium on April 25, 1894, and arrived back in Philadelphia on August 17 of that same year. Records listing the names of the party are found in the passenger arrivals, available at the Mid-Atlantic Branch of the National Archives in Philadelphia. However, not everything went as planned." hsp.org/blogs/history-hits/a-philadelphia-connection-to-the-wild-west
