Ray DeMallie came to Bismarck to give a lecture, he presented this map as a side note. The map is attributed to a Sanish man named Village Chief. However this name is probably a title rather than the individuals name. This is an important map as it shows many places of historical importance. Some unknown person wrote in French the names of these locations. clr.blogspot.com/2014/05/carte-manuscrite-du-missouri-1806.htmlLater, LouieG

Ray DeMallie sent me the address and it works great. There is an English translation of the text. No one blogged the map, so no one seems interested in working on it. I can see the lake with a Bison in it (Buffalo Lodge Lake by Denbigh, North Dakota). Hill with a Thunderbird on it (Thunder Butte west of new Town, ND). For some crazy reason it will not open up as I typed it. Try just the BlogSpot.com and then search for the map. In Bismarck Ray told me to gallica, but that didn't work LouieG

Louie, this looks amazing but I still can't READ the data on the map. Does anyone have tools to magnify it still more?
And Louie, I have been emailing you to let you know I received the book you sent me. I think your email may be rejecting my messages. Thanks hugely for everything. I am at Sitting Bull College for the history conference November 14-16th. Kingsley.

Go on the link I gave; click on the magnifying glass top left and another window opens; click on the magnifying glass over to the right - and keep clicking until you can read it.
