Tatanka Wanagi-Bull Ghost took part in defending his people at the massacre at White Stone and battles of Dead Buffalo Lake, Stony Lake, Big Mound, Kill Deer Mountain which today are considered Civil War Battles in North Dakota. He was taken as Prisioner of War to Crow Creek, when released from Prision he came with the Ihunktonwana, Hunkpatina and Pabaska to the east side of the Missouri River across from where Standing Rock is Located today. This land was a part of their homelands before the battles when Chief Two Bear's father Bear Standing Growling had made camp before 1856 along the east side of the Missouri River, the Cannon Ball and where today Fort Rice located. In 1880 Bull Ghost filed a petition to have his people be removed from Standing Rock to the Crow Creek reservation. Stated that the Hunkpapa and Shisapa were not his people. The chief from Two Bear, Big Head, Red Fish and other stood up and refused to move because this was their land before the battles. So a small group under Bullghost were allowed to leave but the rest of Ihunktonwana, Hunkpatina and Pabaska stayed on their homeland along the Missouri River. In 1918 they were promised food and money to the people if they touch the pen for the Black Hills they were tricked because they were told all the Sioux had already signed to give away the Black Hills so he touch the pen and was given a piece of cloth. He later learned he was fooled.
His descendant are on Crow Creek and Standing Rock today.
BullGhost married Hunkpatinawin at Killdeer before the battle because her husband and children died at the White Stone Massacre and she was the sister to Inkpaduta. Bullghost was a Sisseton who then became Pabaska then Hunkpatina.
