This is a description of the photo "Medicine Cloud (Mahpiya Wakan), Oglala Lakota, by Frank A. Rinehart, at Pine Ridge, S.D., 1899 (copyrighted in 1900). Title and date are hand lettered in the negative. A handsome young man, Medicine Cloud has been posed in an eagle-feather headdress belonging to an older relative. A colorful Pendleton blanket drapes his shoulders. The necklace was probably a prop provided by Muhr---drilled cowrie shells alternating with glass tube beads, more typical of some of the Prairie Indians who had been photographed the previous year".

Dietmar about Chief Big Head told of Medicine Cloud, Yanktonai, from Fort Peck "In 1876, there were only a few Yanktonais in the battle of the Little Bighorn. It is known that a small group of Yanktonais from Fort Peck – Thunder Bear, Medicine Cloud, Iron Bear, Long Tree, and some women – joined Sitting Bull’s camp to hunt and trade. At that time, the Yanktonais skirmished a lot with tribes like the Gros Ventre, the Assiniboines, and the Crows".
In Thunder Bear's Story of the Battle. A Yanktonai Sioux's account of the Battle of the Little Bighorm Thunder Bear told about the same person " The Yanktonai were camping at Old Fort Peck in 1876. Four of us decided to visit Sitting Bull's camp on Pezhi sda wak-pa, Grease Grass river (Little Big Horn). So I, Medicine Cloud, Iron Bear, and Long Tree, with Medicine Cloud's wife, started in the first part of June. We struck Powder river below where Miles City is now and followed the trail leading southwest".
And I think that The History of the Assiniboine and Sioux Tribes of the Fort Peck Indian (p.90) and Sitting Bull interviewed. Return of messengers to Fort Peck Medicine Cloud's mission to Sitting Bull's camp probably told of the same person too
Also I found in the census of Fort Peck/Montana: Henry Medicine Cloud birth 1847 Father Badger Cap Mother Rainbow
