Hi Ephriam, Thank you for your kind offer to answer questions arising from your recent book. Could I refer you to my earlier email to Ladonna concerning the moccasins in the British Museum labelled as being made by the daughter of Sitting Bull and his wife Moungain Goat [woman]. The daughter being referred to as Sleeping Water ? Does your book pick up any similar names at all ?
Many thanks.
Neil

Is there a reason why Kicking Bear is listed in Circle Bear´s Sans Arc band?

Ephriam,
I see that Low Dog is listed as an Oglala in Sitting Bulls surrender census, and yet other publications have him down as a Sihasapa, have you any thoughts on this apparent confusion.
Many many moons ago on a couple of other boards I asked you for any information you had on Low Dog. You were kind enough to give me what little you had. Since then has anything new come to light I wonder, if so I'd appreciate it if you could let me know.
Thanks, Shan

This portrait drawn by Rudolf Cronau shows White Magpie: White Magpie, Un-kce-ki-has-ska, is listed in the SBSC as head of Family 401 of Hump´s Miniconjou band. In 1881 he was 53 years of age and had a wife and a daughter of 10 and a son of 6.

Dietmar: If you look closely at the membership of Circle Bear's band in the Sitting Bull Surrender Census, there is a mixture of Sans Arc and Minneconjou. I suspect that once this band was transferred to Cheyenne River in the spring of 1882, a number of families including Kicking Bear probably joined their traditional tiyospaye.
Shan: Sorry, nothing new on Low Dog. I hope you will be writing up what you have assembled at some point. We would all like to know more about this individual.

Ephriam, I´m wondering about Bull Head, the Captain of the Indian Police that led the arrest and killing of Sitting Bull. In the SBSC Chief Bull Head (Upper Yanktonai), 59 years of age, is listed on page 248 (Family 1135). Captain of Police Afraid of Bears, 34 years in 1881, is listed among the Mixed Blood Families on page 251 (Family 1147). Is he the man who is always mentioned by Vestal/Campbell and others? If I remember correctly White Bull is the source for Bull Head also having the name Afraid of Bears. I assume that Afraid of Bears then is a son of Chief Bull Head. Also, is he the man portraited by D.F. Barry? Bull Head by D. F. Barry
