I am trying to get a current geneology (1900 - present) for descendents of Horn Chips and also for the Garreau family in Cheyenne River Sioux reservations. My son has ties to both families and is curious about his native american heritage. Thanks!

lynna, I may be able to help you. First try the ICS (Indian Census Schedules) which are now available for free here- (I already narrowed the search to Cheyenne River for you) www.archive.org/search.php?query=indian%20Census%20cheyenne%20riverThe census rolls include all years up to about 1940. You will find much valuable information there. Next, contact me and I can look for any relatives who might appear on the SDERA (South Dakota Emergency Relief Administration) surveys for 1935. I have access to every Indian who resided on every reservation in SD in 1935. These consist of from one to three pages and occasionally contain useful family history information. Anyone else curious about the SDERA surveys, please feel free to contact me as well. I can pull these off PDFs and email them to you. I can also send the index to all of the names if requested. I am always happy to help. Vicky jandv@inebraska.com

Thank you Vicky, I did find some very useful info. Now if I can just fill in the blanks between 1940 and now!
