Greetings, I've recently relocated to Colorado from Hawaii and I'd like to explore the Southwest and the American Indian culture and current ways of life on various reservations. I'm also a freelance photographer. That said, I know that once I set foot on tribal land the photography rules are different. The nearest tribe would be the Ute I believe so it's logical for me to start there. The purpose of my photos would be personal, but also with the option to publish them in a book or magazine as part of a professional portfolio as appropriate. Now, before I get into trouble, can anyone tell me if this is even possible and what the current rules and regulations are in regards to photographing people and places on tribal land? Thanks.

Hello demasoni,
and welcome. I don´t feel competent enough to give you detailed advice other than to ask everyone kindly before photographing and tell them your intentions.
Good luck
