Bethel College has some interesting Cheyenne information on its website. On of the best is a copy of Rodolphe Petter's English-Cheyenne Dictionary that can be found at: www.bethelks.edu/mla/holdings/scans/petter_dict/This is not just a dictionary. Petter's accompanying notes are a source of really important information on the Cheyennes. Gary

How refreshing! When confronted by the ethnocentric individuals who insist that all Indian testimony is valueless we are confronted by reality; an Indian dictionary of Cheyenne thoughts that are translated into English. Thank you so much Gary. You will never know how wonderful it is to find this gem of knowledge.

Petter was not however perfect. He hoped that divisions among the Southern Cheyenne would undermine Native religion and encourage the Cheyennes to become Christians.
