Thank you Mitchell, wopida for sharing all those informations ! Right now I´m reading "Inkpaduta:Dakota Leader" by Paul N. Beck, I think I really recommend this book, the author is showing good balance of describing the Dakota leader. He is giving Inkpaduta credit by telling those accounts who describe him as a good man, loving and caring for his family and Dakota people and most of his life he went along well with many white people as well. Injustice by white people caused to get him on the warpath as he and his people had to struggle to survive after being treated badly, even having their guns confiscated in the midst of winter. Good biography in my eyes, telling the story of Inkpaduta in a realistic light, and showing that he was a human being, not a bad one at all, but acting with violence when pressed so to do. Like every human being having good and less good sides, but mostly being of good character.
Inkpaduta: Historians have finally taken notice of this man and the injustices brought upon him and his people. Talking years ago to the Daughter of George Little Ghost (Wanagicikadan Spirit Lake Dakota #303-822 1864-1940), she said that Inkpaduta died about 1878 and was secretly buried at Wood Mountain (CanHe) in Saskatchewan. Historians are now pushing to make him a cultural hero, to join the ranks of Sitting Bull and Crazy Horse. Cinye80

This, I did not know... But we always grew up in Canada as Inkpaduta as a hero, everyone knows who he was. We still have family that claim Inkpaduta family, from my understanding he had hundreds of relatives. there is a family with the Name Inkpaduta, and other family's along with our own Inkpaduta today, Owen Ross calls him self Inkpaduta, a descendant of his in pipestone Manitoba. It will be good to go check out His grave site, where ever it is. There way of thinking in war was totally different from ours today, but then again the world is worse today. I posted about Godfrey before, and he told the truth, the Dakota had a different point of view when it came to war, unarmed or not. That was the way they were for thousands of years. He was definitely up there amongst the famous popular chiefs. A people forced to turn on them, eventually would have been brain washed to remember this like the colonized people we became. they took away the buffalo to gain control, and they took away the annuity most Definitely or threatened to take it away from them and ordered their own to go after Inkpaduta. Then the tabloids chewed him up and spit him out, and it just got worse. I read some of the testimony's and they seems doctored. One woman wrote when the hostile met up with other tribes, there was nothing but praises. The so called good Indians were all family to the bad Indians. they just survived, information was like money. I have been reading on the missionaries that came across these Heroes. They were just trying to survive. everyone doesn't take disrespect kindly. we are all the same aye. if it would have been reasonable, then I'm sure everyone would have agreed to peace, the old soul's took a bit longer.
Stephen Riggs Wrote, "Then came up Maj. T. W. Sherman with his battery. The Spirit Lake murderers must be punished, but the orders from Washington were that the annuity Indians must do it. To persuade them to undertake this was not an easy task. It is very doubtful whether the plan was a wise one. ‘There were too many Dakotas who sympathized with Inkpadoota." archive.org/details/maryifortyyearsw00rigg/page/142/mode/2up?ref=ol&view=theater&q=inkpadoota
My Uncle Ken Mckay is actually having a Inkpaduta family reunion type ceremony soon, along with the family from down states, like Cody Sea boy and others. Inkpaduta battled the Whites the longest for his main purpose of returning to the old ways and for family retaliation from what they mastered for thousands of year's I'm sure. there is a lot of us so far with DNA, Cody Seaboy and I are a match, but he told me a bit of Inkpaduta, and what he knows from down States. He said there is thousands of us. but there was a lot of Inkpaduta family back then too, but they never reported that, just the bad and not the objective.
