Is the man on the left the same man on the left of your second photo? These are Elliott and Fry photos and I have to admit, I haven't seen any of them before. I believe the National Portrait Gallery in London has their archives, although I seem to remember the only relevant photo featured in their online stuff was of Cody.

This has been recently sold at ebay (thanks Henri for pointing it out) and it was dated 1900 or so: The only two Natives we've managed to identify are Iron Tail and Ben American Horse. Can anyone identify others?

Grahame,
I think you are right about the left man in your photos.
Regarding the group photo: Sam Lone Bear is the first Indian standing left. Rocky Bear is sitting in the center with a feather-bonnet.

Grahame has posted an interesting group photo of Lakota performers of Buffalo Bill´s Wild West Show in the 'identification"-thread: I think at least three men in the photo can be identified. Here´s a better resolution picture: The first man is one performer you might expect being with Buffalo Bill, because he was a regular performer on many tours: Joe Black Fox I believe the next man to be Dewey Beard aka Iron Hail, who is famous for being one of the survivors of Wounded Knee Massacre. If he is, this is one of the earliest portraits of him: possibly Dewey Beard The third man in my opinion is Richard Tail aka Sinte, who is pictured in other photographs by Heyn & Madzen as a WW performer: possibly Richard Tail Does anyone recognize more men in the photo?

Looking at the Kasebier book, I think the taller man next to Joe Black Fox is High Heron; the man standing at the left of the photo may be Amos Little. Short Man or Has No Horses sitting at the far right?

Another Cody photo: I recognise Flying Hawk and Joe Black Fox (was he any relation to Flying Hawk's brother?)

This is the second time I am typing this. the first one disappeared before I could post it.
May 1, 1887 R. A. Horse writes in the Iapi Oaye newspaper. Buffalo Bill show at Philadelphia, PA.
11 cloth tipi's, one big tent (Circus Tent?). Six women, one a Scila Winyan (Pawnee Woman). three big men (leaders) Wasicutasunke (American Horse) he is the boss. The other two are Zuyahusta (Lame Warrior?) and Peyucancanpi (Shaking Medicine? (the y is probably a mis placed J) There are Shoshone, Pawnee, and Lakota (Oglala) performers. The article goes on and on.
The March 1, 1888 Iapi Oaye has an article by Black Elk with Buffalo Bill in England.

thanks Grahame, that makes sense. The image can thus be dated to August 1885 and it is in line with the series taken of Sitting Bull at the same period.
