Hello, I'm looking for information and better pictures of this sioux group and in particular of the men with the miwatani headdress. Thanks for your help. André Attachments:

Hallo André,
I´m sure I have seen the photo on ebay some time ago. I´m not sure if I saved it... or where. I´ll look through my files during the next days.

Okay, I can´t find the original scan I saved... but I have printed the page out from ebay about two years ago. I re-scanned it from that paper, so it´s not really better than your´s, André: The seller had titled the photo: A RARE PHOTO OF FOUR NATIVE AMERICAN INDIAN CHIEFS KILLS A HUNDRED LOOKS TWICE SLOW BULL (OGLALA) LONG DOG (DAKOTA) No photographer or date is given. Well, I can see six Indians in the photo, so why FOUR CHIEFS? If you try hard, you can see the four names from left to right under the first scan from André.

I´m afraid I can´t say anything about the man with the Miwatani headdress. Is Kills A Hundred the man with the dark shirt or with the decorated jacket? The name implies he must be the son of Red Dog. Slow Bull... I doubt there is a men in the photo who looks like the Oglala chief of 1868, who was photographed by Gardner at Laramie. The man standing far right reminds me of the Oglala High Bear, photographed earlier by Huffmann and later by Heyn.

Dietmar, thanks for your research. Names and tribe (oglala) are a good start. I have another picture of a sioux with miwatani headdress called Bull Bear and of his wife with a miwatani sash. Now i'm looking for more information ;D Attachments:
