In this photo below, taken at Carlisle, PA in 1879, I can only identify Red Shirt (Oglala) standing at far left in the first row. Can anyone identify the rest?

front row, left to right: Red Shirt (Oglala), Thunder Hawk (Hunkpapa), John Grass (Sihasapa), Big Head (Yanktonai) 2nd row: John Bridgeman (interpreter), Martin Charger (Itazipco), Two Bears Jr. (Yanktonai) I forgot about the 3rd row… Louis Roubideaux ?
Isn´t it Captain R. Pratt, founder of Carlisle Indian School, sitting at left with hat?

Maybe if someone has the Bettelyoun/Waggoner book, they could scan the photograph and post it. I still haven't taken the time to figure how how to post pics despite you instructions, Dietmar.

Emily, after looking at the photo in your book, I would say the man standing far right in the back is Charles Tackett. The man standing between Tackett and Robidaux is, if memory serves me, Ohiyesa aka Charles Eastman. Here is the inscription on the photo: I can only read some of the names...

...and here is the photo in your book:

I didn't think that it looked like Tackett----I know of another photo or two of him, so I'll compare those as well. Thanks. Great job getting those names on the side...
Here's a bad revelation: I think my caption is wrong... I think Tackett was Spotted Tail's SON in law. He left Susan for Spotted Tail's daughter Red Road. I hate when I make mistakes. (see page 130 in With My Own Eyes).

Don´t worry, Emily. I think you are right regarding Tackett being a son-in-law of Spotted Tail. I copied the scan above from another source, not your book. Possibly they got it wrong, or it´s simply a typo.

Yes, their mistake---in whatever book that is. Whew. Also, the more I look at it, the more I think that it IS Tackett in the upper right.
