Tatanka Ohikita-Brave Buffalo Born 6-10-1843 James River Valley D:7-9-1918 Cannon Ball, Sioux, North Dakota Tatanka Ohitika was a medicine man who was born in the james River Valley in 1863 after the White Stone Massacre he was a prisoner of War at Crow Creek on his release came to north side of Standing Rock. Tatanka Ohikita was a holyman who healed people, he is known for making medicine, he was at the Whitestone massacres 9-3-1863 doing ceremonies to call the buffalo for the people. He was taken as a prisoner of war to Crow Creek after Whitestone massarces and was released under Big Heads in 1867 and moved to the east side of Standing Rock until the government moved them across the river to Standing Rock in 1873.

In my opinion it is the owlfeather headdress of the Miwatani or Iyuptala society. These may be two names for the same society or they may be two seperate societies, written sources ( Blish, Hassrick, Wissler, Densmore, Deloria) ar not in Unisono on this matter.
