HA had this photograph on sale, labeled " Black Buffalo Bull, Arikara Scout with Custer's 7th Cavalry". I don't seem to recall there was an Arikara bearing this name at LBH. Can anyone confirm this identification?

Isn´t it a great portrait?
I´ve seen it first in Ben Innis´ book on Bloody Knife. The photo was one of those found stored in one of Custer´s footlockers located at the Custer family farmhouse near Monroe, Michigan.
It´s labelled Black Buffalo, an Arikara scout. Perhaps he wasn´t a scout at the LBH, but on an earlier expedition... 1873 or 1874 with Custer?

It may be so - thank you, Dietmar, also for the reference to Innis' book, which I didn't know of.

Ironically, I've saw this labelled as Crazy Horse in an encyclopaedia years ago!

The auction site says it´s a Goff photo, ca. 1878... what would mean it had been taken after LBH?!
Can anyone read the inscription on the photo? "Little..."
