He is usually identified as Mamay day te, but I have also seen him identified as Tau ankia, son of Lone Wolf who was killed on a raid in Texas in 1873, along with his cousin Gui tan. Another image of Tau ankia shows him from aside, but with almost identical clothing. This, obviously, does not proof anything, but there is some confusion about who is who in a number of Soule images. Later images of Mamay day te show very little resemblance with this portrait though...

Nice. Here's another: Didn't we have a Two Moons picture thread or was that on the old board?

Know this was a few years back and I am new (today) to the forum. I specialize in vintage indigenous photos....the photo of Ridge Walker was taken by Christian Barthelmess at or around Fort Keogh/Miles city, Montana. There is a book called Photographer On An Army Mule By Maurice Frink with Casey Barthelmess Norman Pub 1965 Ridge Walker is on page 105

It seems, Chief One Feather was not a Northern Cheyenne, but a Northern Woodland Cree. This photograph ( Reply #52 ) shows Chief One Feather ( Cree ) dancing at a rodeo in Cheyenne, Wyoming, about 1920

I've been reading through all this and my family used to go by White Hawk. Somewhere along the way it was changed to Hawk. And I have been told my great great great great grandfather was Chief White Hawk. I also read he was in the elkhorn scraper warrior society. One of the 9 chiefs at little big horn. I've seen pictures of him but does anyone have an account of hearing about him in any way? If so I'd like to know more about him and a little of what his part was in the battle of LBH. If anyone can provide me that it'd be greatly appreciated.

Hi, nomad2556,
sorry, but there is a small mistake. White Hawk was not one of nine chiefs at Little Big Horn.
White Hawk was one of nine „ little chiefs“ of the Elkhorn Scraper Society. The leading chief of that society at Little Big Horn was Lame White Man.
In early 1877, White Hawk with some ( fifteen ) followers joined Lame Deer` s Minneconjou .
