thanks Peter, there are multiple plagiarized versions of this image (and the other, similar one) on cardstock by different photographers. I would date your print to around 1891 or shortly thereafter, since anything depicting Sitting Bull would by then have become a hot commodity. Chadron was only established in 1884, which would be after this photograph was taken. in 1890/1891 Trager & Kuhn of Chadron NE distributed a large number of images of Lakota people from Pine Ridge and of the aftermath of the Wounded Knee Massacre. Is there anything on the reverse side of your image ? Egan Street in Chadron NE, the photographer's address does not exist, but there is an Egan Road and it is outside town. It seems that this might have been an enterprising person trying to capitalize on the recent events pertaining to the Ghost Dance uprising, perhaps inspired by Trager & Kuhn who were nearby.

Spotted Horn Bull and Sitting Bull (and others) were at the laying of the cornerstone of the Capitol building in Bismarck in 1883. Maybe their families accompanied them and they were photographed there
