A visitor to the LittleBighorn.info message boards wrote to ask the word for owl. I found a few terms for certain types of owls, and she replied: 4 years ago I met a Lakota Sioux and I've made a little film about his story. And his name is Hiha Luta (Red Owl). So thanks, I know that it is Hiha, because thats is what I can understand, but I thought something like Hyhan.
He is an Oglala Indian, but are there different Oglala Indians, different names? Like Oglala Oyanke? Are there more names after Oglala? She is from the Netherlands and would appreciate your help. Diane

She may be referring to the term Oglala Oyate, meaning Oglala People.

hi diane
that is the correct word for owl. She is probably confused because the pronounciation. It is ''Hehan" with a nasal drifting ''N" at the end. So it would sound like '' Hee-hannnn" er, sort of. Not a written language ya know?

Thanks, miyelo. I bet you are correct. We all hear language in context to our own.
