Thanks rawhide your observation is interesting because if we go back to our old thread about Crow Bands and Leaders in 1858, we see that Dagbizaschush possibly equates to Bears Head, identified by Denig as the head chief of the River Crows. If so Hutton photographed the two principal Crow chiefs of the day, Two Face (Mountain Crow) and Bears Head (River Crow). Indeed exciting to learn that it might be these two important Crow leaders. No doubt the other two were noted individuals as well... While Two Face was indeed a principle leader among the Mountain Crows, he wasn't the principle MC chief at the time. That distinction fell to Red Bear, with Iron Bull not far behind. Raynolds himself called Two Face a "sub-chief", which seems to be a too modest description but at least we know he didn't regard him as the principle headman of the Mountain Crows.

No proof of course, but if I were to make a guess, I'd say that the Crow chief sitting to the right of Two Face (who was twice erroneously called Two Bears by Raynolds btw) and in the portrait and drawning might be the great Mountain Crow leader Red Bear aka Sits On The Edge Of A Fortification. He would have been around 55 years old at the time. We know from Raynolds that he was present at Fort Sarpy. Notice that he, like Two Face, is wearing a peace medal. The only known likeness we have of Red Bear was made about 27 years prior by Catlin. Difficult to match up though. Anyway, just a thought.

Tempting to think it might be him, isn't it?
