Ohan! I find this very interesting, please PM me and let's discuss this. I am interested in knowing more about relatives of Big Head and Wolfnecklace. pahatanka bighead has a perfect resemblence of my deceased father Abraham bighead..my father was a short man..he passed away couple years ago..we have lost our sioux language..we speak oji-cree..we are the only sioux Bighead famiies here in northwestern ontario,canada..there were three bighead brothers that fled from usa to canada..there names were..Benny bighead,who came to nothwestern ontario,with william bighead and his son John bighead...but the other bighead brother michael bighead remained in saskachehwan..so there desendents are scatterd here in nothwestern ontario..Kingfsher lake,ont,wunnimun lake,ontario and cat lake,ontario canada.. |

Hello...I am looking for my Great grandfather's relatives his name was John Big Head. Born (1877-1881) Don't know where he was born...or who his parents were...any info would help..

I am following up on information I found in Josephine Waggoner's WITNESS: A Hunkpapha Historian's Strong-Heart Song of the Lakotas. Mrs. Waggoner writes in her chapter on Big Head (p. 303) that "Big Head became separated from his wife and was reported killed. She had a small son. Later she became the wife of Waanatan, of Charger...When a reunion of the nations took place, Mrs. Big Head saw her former husband...She told Waanatan she wished to return to her former husband...returned her to Big Head." The footnote references Red Owl but is unclear if this was the women Charger briefly married, ca 1863-65. The story of a second wife being given up is vaguely told in Samuel Charger's Biography of Martin Charger with no detail on names. I am desperately trying to identify the name of this woman (Charger's second wife). Complicating matters is Regina Spotted Horse's claim that she was briefly married to Martin Charger (Francis Jackson oral history, USD American Indian Research Project, 1972). If anyone has ANY clarification on this, please reach out. I can find NO information on Regina Spotted Horse aside from the oral history account. Seeking to confirm whether Regina Spotted Horse was indeed Charger's second wife and whether this was the same person referenced as Big Head's wife (and if not, who was the wife of Big Head that Charger married). The timing seems to indicate it may have been the same woman but I have no solid confirmation.
