Title: The War with the Sioux: Norwegians against Indians 1862-1863. Author: Karl Jacob Starstein Publisher: The Digital Press, University of North Dakota 2015 Translators: Mellisa Gjellstad and Danielle Skjelver.
The first 38 pages contain: Translators Acknowledgements, Translators Introduction, Historical Introduction, Becoming American, and The Apple Creek Fight and Killdeer Mountain Conflict. The next 252 pages contain chapters: Forward, Two Peoples, The Uprising, The Whites Strike Back, The War on the Prairie, Afterword, Sources and Literature, notes on Contributors, and Battle Maps. No index . This is an interesting book as it contains history as published in the usual American sources, but is fortified by Norwegian newspaper articles, letters and contemporary books written in Norwegian never before seen in the English language.
One extra highlight in the book is Dakota Goodhouse's narrative of the Indian side of the war, along with all the geographic place names in Lakota associated with the 1862-1863 battles in North Dakota. The Killdeer Mountain Battle is recorded as the largest military action against the Indians on the Northern Plains.
