Red Dog returned to the Red Cloud Agency with the rest of the Oglala delegation after the 1872 delegation trip to Washington, D.C. He saw his family briefly before starting out again for the Fort Peck Agency negotiations. I assume that his daughter joined Red Dog at that time.
Post by Dietmar on Apr 3, 2011 at 3:03pm A website visitor has send me this information on Kicking Bear and his cousin Elbert Chief:
Kicking Bear is one of 3 brothers by his father Black Fox and mother Iron Cedar Woman. Kicking Bear, Flying Hawk and Black Fox II. Kicking Bear had one daughter and 3 sons. The one son that lived on into the 1900's is Thunderbird or Frank Kicking Bear.
My friend Dave Yakima Chief, Oglala Lakota, now deceased, told me in 1998 that his father, Elbert Chief was first cousins with Frank Kicking Bear. Elbert's father was Thunderbird and his mother was Goes Out With It or Rising Sun. They all (Kicking Bear, Chief and Black Elk too) lived in Manderson, The Wounded Knee District.
The Thunderbird name is familial lineage I see. Dave Chief's Lakota Oglala name was Wakinyan also or Thunder. maybe Thunderbird.
Dave Chief's mother was Hattie Fills the Pipe whose father was Silas Fills the Pipe and his father was Red Dog.
I want to confirm the first cousin relatinship between Elbert Chief and Frank Kicking Bear.
Reviewed some of my notes and found this April 3, 2011 post from; Tanya. (See above)
I would still like some help concerning more verification. It would be much appreciated.
After the post above, I did make contact with Tanya. It is very fortunate for me that, my late relative, Dave Chief had shared some good family lineage information with her. Which, does state for example; Dave Chief's wife, Hattie Fills The Pipe was a relative to Red Dog and Kills A Hundred, etc.
