I am always interested in how words are put together. In consulting with Mike Cowdrey I now add this thread:
Low Dog is carrying a Three Bladed War Cub in all his photographs. Mike looked up the name of the club in father Bueche's Dictionary: Canmilokatapi. Looking in my Lakota and Dakota dictionaries I see the name is a contraction: Can = wood; Mi (Mila) = knife; O = in; kata = kill by striking; Pi = plural. A wooden object with knifes in it used to kill by striking [the enemy]. Bushotter gives the name of this special club in his papers. I gave a quick look, but as there is no index, I gave up the search. Can anyone locate Bushotters name for this club? Louie Garcia, Tokio, ND
