In an older post by Gregor he stated:
It is known that Charles was married at least two times, to
• Wasichu Win (White Women) most likely an Oglala Sioux (?) and to
• Rose Gueru / Gereu, daughter of John Richards and Mary Gardiner, a Brulé half breed woman
Gueru’s children with Wasichu Win (?) are
• Mollie Gueru, (abt 1853 - ?) later Mrs. Bridgeman
• John Gueru (1859 - ?)
• James Gueru (abt 1862 - ?)
First of all some clarification - the Charles who married White Woman and the Charles who married Rosa Richard are not the same man. Charles Giroux and Rosa Richard are my husband's great grandparents and I have Charles' death certificate. He was born in 1861 and died in 1923. They had four children: Mary (1885-1931), Charlotte or Lottie (1887-1981), Elizabeth or Lizzie (1890-?), and Charles Jr (1896-1896.)
Secondly my question - does anyone know if Charles Gueru had a son named Charles who might be the one married to Rosa? I have been unable to track him further back and wondering where his family comes in. I know he was part Sioux but Giroux is not an Indian name and I would like to find out about his parents.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Hi Nicole, From what I can tell, Charles Giroux (1862-1923) was the son of Louis Giroux (1809-1870) and Mary (Marie) Beauvais (1842-1929). Louis Giroux was from Berthierville, Quebec, and Mary Beauvais was the daughter of Geminien Pierre Beauvais (1815-1878) and Mary Red Nose (1820-1887 -- her name is unconfirmed). G.P. Beauvais, one of my third great grandfathers, was descended from French Canadians who had migrated to Ste. Geneveive, Missouri, and he ran trading posts near the California Crossing of the Platte River and near Fort Laramie. Mary Red Nose may have been a relative of American Horse.
Charles Guereu the interpreter (Abt. 1830-1880), on the other hand, appears to have been a "Frenchman from France," but I don't know from what part of France or who his parents. He married or had children with Rosalie "Rosa" Richard (1856-1900), Lucy Garnier (1903-1929), and One Pine (1860- ).
I think because their last names sound the same (Giroux and Guerue) people have conflated the two Charles. I am not an expert on any of this, so please tell me if you think I'm getting things wrong. I'm trying to research the descendants of G.P. Beauvais, as well as the Roubidoux brothers, from whom I am descended too. Best wishes, Margaret

I just had a conversation with our member Gregor about portraits of Charles Geroux. I would think Geroux and Giroux are only different spellings, aren´t they? I´ve also seen him spelled Charles Jereaux. These pictures were taken in 1910, when he was interpreter for a group of Lakota who went to Germany to act in Hagenbeck´s Tierpark (Zoo).
