Charlie knows a few of the chiefs below but would appreciate the identification of all 13 chiefs and the photographer.

I´ll give it a try:
sitting in front (from left to right) are: Yellow Bear II., Oglala Red Cloud, Oglala Big Road, Oglala Little Wound, Oglala Young-Man-Afraid-of-his-Horses, Oglala
standing behind (f.l.t.r): George Sword, Oglala Good Voice, Brule ?? (I´m not sure who this is) Ring Thunder, Brule Little Hawk, Brule White Tail, Brule Young Spotted Tail, Brule Hollow Horn Bear, Brule
Can anyone help me out about the unidentified individual?
Thanks

Indeed the man seated in the centre is Big Road (Canku Tanka) of the Oglala (Oyuhpe band)? I never seen before this image of him.

Charlie:
The photograph you posted is one of four group portraits known of the 1877 delegation taken by Mathew Brady.

We had one of these photographs discussed earlier. It´s here now: www.american-tribes.com/Articles/ART/1877Delegation.htmHere are the other ones: back row: Jose Merivalle/Merrival (interpreter), Young Spotted Tail, Touch-the-Clouds, Hollow Horn Bear, White Tail, Billy Garnett/Hunter front row: Red Bear, Ring Thunder, Spotted Tail, Good Voice, Little Hawk, Swift Bear back row: He Dog, Little Wound, American Horse, Little Big Man, Younf-Man-Afraid, George Sword front row: Yellow Bear, Merivalle, Billy Garnett, Leon Pallardy, Three Bears (just a slight variation of the photo above) back row: ? , Young Spotted Tail, ? front row: Touch-the-Clouds, Sharp Nose, Black Coal, Friday Sorry, I´ll have to look for the names of the white people in there. There of course also is the well known photograph with all delegates, but I don´t have a very good scan to offer here.

Thanks to Dietmar and Ephriam. I think that the mysterious man is only present in the first photo. So, it's impossible making comparison with others images. May be a Brulè, because in the standig row, except Sword, are all Brulè chiefs (it's only my suggestion...). I hope that others experts post them opinions.

If memory serves, I think Ephriam mentioned a while back that Sword wasn't with the official party.

Here he is in a blown up scan: I looked through the identifications of the group photo with the whole delegation but could´t find any name for him. In some publications Black Crow turns up as a delegate in 1877, but I think he doesn´t look like Black Crow.

The two white men with the Arapahoe delegates and Touch-the-Cloud must be the other interpreters with the delegation, Antoine Janis and F.C. Boucher.

On this site: cgi.ebay.it/native-american there is the start photo of this thread. Our man is labelled GOOD VOICE (Yanktonai). But i have seen several mistakes on the identification of the others chiefs of the same image.....

Charlie,
can´t get to that site... but I´m sure Good Voice (Brule) is standing second from left in back row (next to George Sword).
I´ve seen the man standing next to him identified at other websites as Red Bear, please compare to the man in the second delegation photo...

...any corrections to be made? The ones I´m not that sure are George Sword, Little Hawk (son of Two Strike) and Hollow Horn Bear.
