Hello
I'm currently trying to find out more about Two Hatchet /Ah Keah Boat and have come across two photos of interest, apart from the usual four taken by Rinehardt at the Omaha Indian Congress in 1898. The first of interest is one that appears in another thread (Old photos, I think) of a group of nine Kiowa dancers, naming Two Hatchet as Aun Ke Boat and his wife Bo-lo. I've seen this photo dated both 1902 and 1905, but what I can't see is any real resemblance to Two Hatchet /Ah Keah Boat in the more famous Rinehardt photo. Does anyone else see a resemblance? Worthy of note is that Aun Ke Boat is named as Haun Ke Bo or Haun Ke ah Bo on the census rolls and would have been born in 1870.
The second photo is one I stumbled across when looking for something entirely different and it's a photo, taken around 1900 (somewhat vague, I think), of Little Bow/Aun Ko To Ye, son of chief Big Bow. On first glance, I actually thought it was Two Hatchet/Ah Keah Boat, a few years younger than he looks in the 1898 photos.. Compare:
I then superimposed the "Little Bow" photo onto the other and after fiddling a bit with the opacity of the top layer, I thought the facial features coincided once I'd got the hairline in the same place. Also, look at his fingers and the posture. To me, it looks like the same man. Any opinions anyone?
To add a bit more info to all this, the Find A Grave website shows details of the grave of Little Bow and to me, the corresponding photo doesn't match the photo of Little Bow as shown here.
As I have been unable to identify Two Hatchet/Ah Keah Boat for certain on the census rolls, I'd also like to ask if anyone has any idea roughly how old he would have been in those Rinehardt photos. His approximate year of birth would help decide between three candidates.
I hope all this has made sense and isn't too confusing.
Thanks for reading.
