Does anyone know if there were captured Northern Cheyenne held at Ft, Fred Steele in South Central Montana ? If you are referring to the Cheyenne Odyssey or Exodus (1878-1879) then I haven't seen any documentation on it. The Northern Cheyenne escape followed a line north from Oklahoma through Kansas, then Nebraska, then angled slightly northwest through South Dakota, and finally Montana. The most western part of the route (Dull Knife's followers) ended near Fort Robinson in South Dakota. There were several forts much closer than Fred Steele (located in southern Wyoming), so I doubt any prisoners would have been brought there.
