Greetings from France , I had often seen on Pinterest a beautiful picture (photo ) of a Miniconjou (may be ) called Spotted Hawk sometimes called Long Wood ! It seems that he was a band chief at Cheyenne River during the years 1870 and that he had signed the 1876 treaty So I would learn more about this man ( band of belonging , genealogy , warrior life ) Best regards !

Good question, frenchman! I think you mean these two portraits?: Spotted Hawk, Miniconjou, said to be taken by Thompson & Scott Long Wood, possibly taken by D. S. Mitchell, 1870s (according to Cowan´s Auctions the original at the Denver Public Library has the ink inscription on verso: Cetan Gleska) Actually, until now I haven´t even noticed these pictures could show the same man.

Spotted Hawk is listed as one of the Miniconjou signers of the Sioux Agreement of 1876. (October 16, 1876) A man named Spotted Hawk was transferred to Pine Ridge from Cheyenne River in 1886, but a year later he told the Pine Ridge agent that he was only on a long visit. All of Spotted Hawk’s property was still at Cheyenne River and he wanted to return. He was transferred back to Cheyenne River, see Agent H. D. Gallagher to Agent Charles McChesney, RBIA, RG 75.19.11, Cheyenne River, Misc. Corres. Received, Box 354, NARA (KC). pdfs.semanticscholar.org/a518/bcab03e3a49276d130955de260a17fdec24f.pdf

Never occurred to me either! I can't remember where, but I've seen somewhere that the Long Wood portrait is later than Mitchell, but it looks like a Mitchell, so who knows...?
