Interesting page of the LBH College on Chief Medicine Crow by Joe Medicine Crow (mostly based on the same author's From the Heart of Crow Country: lib.lbhc.cc.mt.us/about/history/jmc.php"Medicine Crow was a warrior from the time he first went on the warpath at the age of fifteen until his last battle in 1877. He attained chieftaincy about 1870 at the age of twenty-two, and from then on he set the pace for aspiring young warriors of his people. Until his death in 1920, at the age of seventy-two, he was a "reservation chief," concerned with helping the Crow tribe "learn to live in the ways of the white man" as soon and as efficiently as possible. He went to see the Great Father in Washington many times on behalf of his people. ...."

Medicine Crow in a Fred Miller plate sold some months ago at Cowan's - obviously, the colored postcard posted by Dietmar in the previous page was based on this photograph.

I'm not 100% certain, but a good guess would be Throssel (same hairdo as in the earlier posted Throssel picture)

Sent by Henri and dated 1889. Medicine Crow should be the one standing in the middle.

The "Seminole and Crow" photo has an inscription in the same hand as a photo I posted on the group pictures thread. Is it a Locke photo?

Yes, it could be...as for the writings on both images, it could be a later note by a collector. Obviously, I've doubts about the "Seminole" :-)

Here's a closer look at the men at the front of the photo Jinlian posted above. To Medicine Crow's right is his uncle and step-father , Bull Goes Hunting. Taken around 1899, near Lodge Grass, Montana.
