thanks for posting that, what an interesting story. I also find it interesting that such an imaginative name as " Hole-in-the-day," was given , or used by so many men. I wonder what significance it had, any ideas?

"Hole-in-the-day" maybe something was wrong with the day? An unwanted or unexpected event, can be a "hole".
I think the U.S. has had a policy of trying to strong arm native american by "showing up" with armed men and making demands, while forgetting that the men they are dealing with are indigenous peoples to the land, and are not going to be intimidated. Alot of the casualties and battles during the "Indian Wars" was due to American aggression.
