Not as an answer to tomfc but I would like to add an important, to me at least, piece of information of Rocky Bear that I have not seen included here. Rocky Bear and his brother Black Tiger were halfbrothers of Mary Gardiner, wife of John Richard, the famous trader. Mary's father being William Gardiner. Rocky Bear was an close ally and companion to the Richards during the early years and an explanation to the Richards close ties to Red Cloud.

Much appreciated all the same, Rawhide! It's as well to be aware of these connections.

Rocky Bear with a couple of locals in Barcelona, 1889/90. I think Rocky Bear was an inch or so higher than six foot, but these two guys look really small compared to him.

Another from his travels with the Wild West Show - possibly edited from a full length shot: I think this is him to th left of the picture: I think both images are from the show's stop in Paris As is this: Again, I think that's Rocky Bear at the left of the picture; furthermore, that may be Red Shirt standing in the centre with the side-parted hair: With Cody at the newly built Eiffel Tower, 1889

Standing at the right, with the Wild West Show - possibly earlier than the 1888 trip to Europe Iron Tail, Cody and Rocky Bear, later in life

Grahame, I agree that the pictures from the museum in Lyon were all taken in summer 1889 in France and also to your identifications of Rocky Bear and Red Shirt. I´d say the men in this photograph are left to right: Rocky Bear, Short Man, Feather Earring and an unidentified man:

Hi everybody and happy new year! The man standing on the right in my opinion bears some resemblance with Richard Spotted Elk even if the portraits of that period show him more overweight and I don't know if he ever worked\travelled with Cody's show.

Hi Clarence,
thanks for your suggestion, but Richard Spotted Elk was not part of that 1889/90 tour.

Rocky Bear by Weygold in 1909, the year he died.
