Hi Patty, sorry to come back to you thus late. Re the photograph you've asked about, I searched for it in all of my hardware, but found nothing. I suppose it came from an auction website or that somebody sent me ages ago. I'll keep searching in my present mailbox and in the former one - in case I get news of info, I'll surely let you know. Best wishes for the upcoming winter holidays,

On ebay: an 1890s Huffman group of Crows (cropped from a larger photo - look at the arm at the left of the frame). That's Hail Stone at the front, left.

Henri kindly sent the folloing photos, one of which is the uncropped original of the one in the post above. Both are by Christian Barthelmess (post 1888), not Huffman, whose studio he used and who was given some of the former's negatives after his death and distributed them as his own.

Crow scouts, Fort Custer around 1889: Is that Pretty Eagle in the centre of this enlarged group?

Hello Grahame, these are terrific, thank you for sharing. Do we know at all who some of the individuals are in the photos? In reply #64, numbers are written near the individuals, suggesting the names were noted somewhere, maybe on the back of the originals? Carlo

Sorry, Carlo, I don't. Henri sent me the photos.
Going by photos already posted: No. 6 is Little Crow (or his brother) No. 8 is Hail Stone/Stump Horn Bull

In this great photo taken by Haynes, I have seen the Crow standing back right as both Crane in the Sky ( from photo archives at the Montana Historical Society) and as Sits Before the Cloud ( from Freeman Tilden's, "Following the Frontier.") Does anyone have any photos of either for comparison? Thanks Attachments:

Thank you Grahame. Heritage Auction´s scans are always among the best.
We have better experts on Crow portraits than me, but I think I see Medicine Crow in photo 2 and 3.

Agree. I think the man second from left in the last photo is Grey Bull and the man at the far right may be Wolf Lies Down - as seen in this 1903 photo:
