I have Hoop on the Forehead as Running Deer! Here's Little Head, wearing that jacket: Isn't there a photo of Sitting Bull composed of the Goff Sitting Bull head suck on top of the body of Curley or Little Head wearing this jacket?

Speaking of that jacket.... Slightly different, but definitely same style. 18880 Washington delegation - Two Belly, Chief of the River Crow

The only individual I've some more detailed info about is Deaf Bull, who was a traditiolist headman who opposed the selling of Crow lands and the settling of white ranchers on the reservation. Known as a "hostile", he payed many visits to the Lakota reservations in South Dakota and was the only elder leader supporting the "rebellion" of Sword Bearer in 1887. For this reason, he was arrested with other "rebels" and taken to the Fort Snelling prison (Minnesota) where he was detained until 1889. Crow prisoners after the Sword Bearer rebellion - Deaf Bull is standing second from left (near the soldier with rifle) Two Deaf Bull portraits by E. Burbank, about 1905

From the 1885 Crow census:
Sits Down Spotted, born in 1861 (he looks older in the picture, though)
Carries His Food, born in 1858

Isn't Deaf Bull the shorter man with the scarf on his head? He looks like the man in the photo above.

The identification comes from Hoxie's book Parading Through History: The Making of the Crow Nation in America . I'll try to blow up it tonight and compare the two photographs & Burbank's portraits through a panorama image.

Yes, Dietmar, you're right - it's confirmed by this other photograph, in which, btw, Knows His Coup is said to be Crazy Head's son. Update: our posts crossed! ;D

A Morrow stereoview: Iron Bull, Crow chief, d.1886. Was considered one of the best diplomats of the Crows and his success in dealings with white traders and official consented him to get considerable wealth. He was also famous for being very generous and give away many of his goods to poor memeber of his tribe, who often had meals at his lodge. Iron Bull was also one of the first scouts for US army. Another picture of him can be found in the "Sits in the Middle of the Land" thread (delegation picture)
