Hello!
I am am looking for any information anyone has on Sam Lone Bear, son of Chief lone Bear. I know Sammy was part of the Wild West shows in the early 1900s. I am specifically looking for information on his relationship with photographer Gertrude Kasebier. I understand that they kept in contact for many years through letters. Who did Sammy marry and when did he die? How long was he with the Wild West shows and what did he do afterwards? What year was he born? Does he have any relatives living today?
Thank you!

This is an article on Sam Lone Bear by Steve Friesen, the director of the Buffalo Bill Museum and Grave in Golden, Colorado: " Lakota Globetrotter Sam Lone Bear, a learned dandy, represented his people on the world stage." truewestmagazine.com/lakota-globetrotter/

OAR: I am his Great Grand daughter. The article by Steve F. was incorrect. He still has 6 Great Grandchildren. I have spoken to Steve F. about how some of his information is incorrect... but he did not care to hear the truth. If you need information about my Great Grandfather, I am opening to answering your questions.

I too am looking for Samuel (Sam, Sammie) Lone Bear. I have so far come across two men with the same name, born a year apart. One was the son of an Oliver Lone Bear and Plenty Brothers (Pass Creek District, Pine Ridge Rez) and was the son of a Lone Bear and Lizzie Walks at Night ( Medicine Root District, Pine Ridge Rez). One was a show Indians with Buffalo Bill's Wild West (and others) and the other was a follower of the peyote cult (and was arrested in 1933). The latter died 4th February 1937 while the former was still alive in 1940 lodging with friends Thomas and Sally Stabber. They were certainly different people and I pretty sure that the show Indian Sam was son of Lone Bear and Lizzie. Interestingly in 1933 Sally (Sallie) Stabber took shipment of a headstone for a Private Lone Bear, Troop A of the Indian Scouts. I would welcome any comment.
