Thank you, Grahame , for your reply.
Yes, the year, when that photo was taken, ist the crucial point .
James Rowland was born 1859 . Even, when that photo was taken around 1898, James would be almost forty years old . In my view, the man on that photo appears to be older than forty years.
Please compare that photo with the photo of 1879 ( above, Cheyenne prisoners with interpreter ) . James was twenty years old in 1879 .
I guess, the man on the Barthelmess photo is not James Rowland , but maybe his brother William Rowland Jr. , who was seven years older than James .
I know, this is a daring hypothesis of mine.

My great grandparents were Daisy Bent Harrison and Scott Youngman Harrison. My grandfather was one of their sons, Benjamin Youngman Harrison, married Wynona June Littlehawk, their children were Lucille Rose Harrison, passed at age 4, Rudolph Roland Harrison, & Elizabeth Ann Harrison Morlan (my mother). I am currently working on dates of births, marriages, & deaths with my mother, who has a copy of our family tree. I will update my post as I obtain more information regarding dates and names from my mother when I return to Oklahoma. I will also post information about all of Daisy Bent's children and their children up to current day as I receive it.

Hello, I am excited to see additional information added to the Bent family. But, now I am confused. Who was Lucille [Lucy] Bent's husband? All I have is Otto Little Man. I see the children's last names are Flores. So is her husband's name Otto Little Man Flores? Is Daisy the only child or is Mary also a child or is Mary Daisy's daughter? I too am looking forward to the list of family Nona. Thanks for posting your information ladies.

Hello Becky, This is Roberta, I was trying to add correct information to your posting of Nov. 15,2014. My posting of Mar. 24,. 2015 lists the correct dates of my grandparents marriage; the birthdates of Lucille, their daughter, and William Jr., their son; my correct name Roberta, not Robert; and the addition of two more children. The only child that has Flores as a surname is Francis. The others are Lemmon. The Lucy Bent born in 1895 was my grandfather's sister. My mother was never called "Lucy". I tried not to cause any confusion. Mary Bent born in 1879 d. July 7, 1941 was my older grandfather's sister, Daisy Bent Harrison and Lucy Bent were his younger sisters. I do not know who the husband of Lucy was. I hope this straightens out the information.

Hello I am a very distant cousin of the Bents. My great grandmother was Lucy Bent and William and Charles Bent were her dad's great Uncles. Silas Jr. Bent and Abner Bent were brothers. While Silas Jr. moved on from Belpre, Ohio his brother Abner stayed on. I have a pretty complete history of the Bent's on my RootsWeb page under the name kerrstudio. George Bent did die in Colony, Oklahoma. Island was the third daughter of White or Grey Thunder the father and medicine man, keeper of the arrows. Owl Woman was William's first wife and as was the custom her sisters were taken into his care. Owl Woman died either giving birth to Julia or shortly after her birth. Yellow Woman became the second wife and Charles Bent was her son. Island was the youngest and helped raise the children. William's 3rd wife. After the Sand Creek massacre Yellow Woman and Island left William Bent and followed Charles and George to the Dog Soldiers. Also, I have seen somewhere, that she died at Sand Creek so there are conflicting stories about that. I am thrilled to have found this website and the photos I have found here. Thanks for posting!

Becky, Lucy was William Henry Bent Sr's sister and she was married to Otto Littleman, somewhere I have a copy of their marriage license and maybe even a copy of their divorce. Lucy Bent never had any children. Lucille, my grandmother was Lucy's niece. I will try to find the documents and see if I can get them scanned soon.

Here's a photo entitled Mayor Lee and his wife at the agent's house, Cheyenne and Arapaho Agency, Indian Territory, 1885. It's in The Heard Museum collection and I'm guessing it's a Cosand and Mosser, because the museum contains many other photos of Southern Cheyenne and Arapaho by the pair and the date fits. 'Mayor' Lee is presumably 'Major' - or Captain Jesse M Lee, who took over as agent in 1885 or 86 (and who had been somewhat unwittingly, involved in the murder of Crazy Horse in 1877 while he was agent at Spotted Tail) and that's surely George Bent between Lee and the majority of the Indians, who would appear to be police (which, I think dates it to 1886 at the earliest).

thank you cinemo. again because of the missing images, I found this Magpie Woman by W.P. Bliss, 1874-77, wife of George Bent...but she doesn't look exactly like the girl with George in the most famous picture...but I'm not a physiognomist at all
