This seems to be the same Black Horse who features in a ledger (named after him) on the PILA site, where the protagonist(s?) have depicted themselves fighting Indian enemies and white men (some pages even depict George Bent, so presumably during the 1860s on the southern and central plains), as well as later scouting for the army - in fact, maybe even as Indian soldiers judging by the wearing of what appears to be a full uniform. Looking at the PILA site again, I can see some of these plates clearly depict the same events. For example: The man's head may be looking in a different direction, but note the bullet wounds:
