Hello, I want to inform about this important Program / Project of Indigenous Youth Mentoring. I was made Aware of this by program coordinator and friend Mitch Walking Elk (Cheyenne-Arapaho of OK). This is a program of Guadalupe Alternative Program, a non Profit iner City alternative School located in St. Paul, Minnesota. The mentoring program was funded for two years to teach Indigenous youth traditonal ceremonies. The Young People attend Dakota and Ojibwe Language classes, weekly traditional/cultural sessions and did attend several ceremonies specific to Ojibwe, Lakota,Dakota,Nakota and Arapaho Nations. This has included healing, naming, teaching and other ceremonies, as well as receiving guidance and direction in life from a ceremonial perspective from traditional elders and medicine People. They are one and one half year into the two year program. Funding runs out in December 2015 and they are seeking funding to extend the program for at least one more year. The program provided traditional teachings and opportunities to urban Native youth, they otherwise would not have been able to expierence. Program coordinator is Mitch Walking Elk, enrolled member of the southern Cheyenne-Arapaho Tribes of Oklahoma and an employee of Guadalupe Alternative Program.
