There´s a new portrait of Thunder Hawk currently offered at Ebay: Information by the seller: This photograph dating from the 1890's-1906 era measures 3 3/8" x 3 1/8" and the heavy stock cardboard mount measures 5" x 5" and is embossed "KODAK" on front lower left corner and is also marked on back "Eastman Kodak Company, Rochester, N.Y.". Showing Chief Thunderhawk , leader of the Hunkpapa Indian tribe in South Dakota, he is shown in the foreground of some rolling hills wearing a light colored robe with dome-top hat and he is holding an old pipe bag. On the back of image is hand written in pencil: " Thunder Hawk with old-time pipe in bag under his arm (taken late in the afternoon and a failure). " Obviously this inscription was written by the original photographer since he would be the only person who would know there was an "old-time pipe" inside the bag and the additional mention of "failure" would only be mentioned if the photographer had planned on using the image for publication purposes. I haven't had the time to research which photographer took this photograph and its possibly an unrecorded image and never published since it was taken too late in the day. (...) This photograph was recently found amongst other late 1800's/early 1900's Sioux Indian photographs from South Dakota that we are currently putting up at auction so check them out also for a full history of this large archive related to the Standing Rock Indian Reservation.

I also have another photo in my collection labeled "Thunder Hawk and Wives." I don't know if this is the same man who partnered with Spotted Tail Jr. in the White Thunder murder. The time of the photo is late 1880's, when my ancestor was agent at Rosebud. Hello! Wonderful picture! Do you have any information about Thunder Hawk's younger wife?

Several of my Thunderhawk,SD. friends are going to try and find Chief Thunderhawk's grave in the Thunderhawk Camp Cemetery but do not know how to find it . We plan of doing some weed trimming around the site if needed. One of our bunch is part Indian from the Ft. Yates area. GPS coordinates would be perfect if anyone has them. I can't get the file size of the USGS topo quad small enough to post. But you can get it free on line from the USGS site. www.usgs.gov/pubprod/click on free topo maps. You want Cottonwood Creek NW And the map in the pocket in the back of Taming the Plains shows where the cemetery is. I'm sure LaDonna knows.
