Today is the 135. anniversary of the Northern Cheyenne outbreak at Fort Robinson , Nebraska.
On January 9, 1879, a Northern Cheyenne group, led by Dull Knife, broke out of the wooden barracks at Fort Robinson at night and escaped into bitter cold. Many died or were killed by soldiers, but a few, including Dull Knife, made it to the Powder River country in southeastern Montana.
Yellow Bird, an Affiliate of Seventh Generation Fund is a grass roots organization founded by Phillip Whiteman Jr. and Lynette Two Bulls with the goal of providing programming to create social change by empowering our youth, families and community. Our original programming the Annual Fort Robinson Outbreak Spiritual Run, now in its 18th year has become a venue for addressing historical trauma, wellness and empowerment. Now, Yellow Bird has grown to provide many activities with the common theme of healing, wellness and empowerment.

She is the first and only student from Lame Deer High School to receive an Ivy League education. Her work is a direct response to American misrepresentation and cultural appropriation, and provides a true sense of her history and people. Cinnamon has participated in the Fort Robinson Outbreak Spiritual Run for three times
"We teach the kids that that strength that they (our ancestors) had to survive and to run home to acquire our homeland, we still have in us, and we need to run toward other goals"
