I thought so Frank, but I just wanted to be sure. His CR family consider him Mnicoujou. And White Bull's CR family consider HIM Mnicoujou also. FWIW.

I'm happy with those news thanks. And if they consider them to belong to those bands then its good enough for my website too .

I couldn't agree more. I was reading back over this thread. There was a reference to "High(Tall) Bear". 'High' and 'Tall' are not interchangable, in other words...
wakantuya - high, as in the dwelling place of a higher power hanska - tall, as in a tall tree
So that should eliminate one man, at least. Hump's medicine man, Tall Bear isn't the same as our High Bear. I will see what I can find out about the Mnicoujou (Holy) High Bear. Then maybe we can nail down which bio fits.

So in the middle there it is the same Miniconjou Tall Bear as this one is: Yes. I lightened up the group photo on my computer and they are definately the same man -- Tall Bear. Not High Bear.

I´m sorry this goes all round and round... but I still would be careful to say High Bear (of Huffman) is Mnicoujou. There is this Heyn photo of him, too. I have gone through all Heyn photographs I know of in the last days. Well, it could be I don´t know them all. But all I saw were of Lakotas from Pine Ridge and Rosebud. For me that speaks for the assumption that Huffman has labelled his photo right... as Oglala. I still have no proof, I´m sorry, but I´ll keep looking.

yeap, please do. But could it be that HB was Miniconjou at the time Huffman took his photo and then later on his days he had become Oglala when Heyn took his photo? Or is that weird idea? ;D

Frank ~
Since the High Bear family settled on Cheyenne River, that's indicative of at least his later years being Mnicoujou.

Another try...
I must admit I´m not as good in these things as Ephriam and Kingsley, but I found in census records among other High Bears (who were Hunkpapa, Yanktonais and Brule) two men who - judging from their birthdates - could be one of the questioned men in this thread.
Adam High Bear, born 1845 or more probably 1847, who was married to Susan First White Cow, had several children and lived on Cheyenne River
High Bear, born in 1851, who was married to Timber High Bear (b 1851) and Looks at the Ground (b 1842) and had two sons and lived on Pine Ridge

My great, great grandfather was High Bear who was a Miniconju. He was born around 1824. I'm not sure if these High Bear's being discussed are the same person. My first impression is more then likely not..
