The first photo is by H R Locke of Deadwood. I've seen the subjects labelled as Crow and sometimes as Lakota. I've seen the date given as mid-1880s, but I suspect it's later.
The other photos - especially the outdoor shots - would seem to date from a few years later. There are photographs of the carving of Mount Rushmore (started in 1927) credited to Bell photo.

The first photo is of Young Man Afraid of His Horse and family (wives, mother, daughter and grandchild etc.). I've never seen it spelled out but my guess is they are in mourning, and that it is after the death of Old Man Afraid of His Horse in the autumn of 1889.

All the times I've seen that photo and never recognised who it was...

Sorry guys, but I still have difficulties to recognize Young-Man-Afraid in the first photo.
Btw, thank you dingy for uploading all the pictures the last couple of weeks.

Hey all together, I have some names to the pictures. The 4th (kneeing in grass) is RED BEAR, in the background that could be HIGH EAGLE. The 5th (with flute) is BAD BEAR. Both are to see in a groupphoto with David Humphreys Miller. In the 8th pic are FRIGHTENED JOE and LEADER CHARGE, both Brule-Lakota.
