When he was eight years old his father was killed by the Cherokee Indians. He was adopted by the Sioux and given the name Fast Eagle. During the early 1870's he drifted north with the great cattle herds. He then settled for the rest of his life in the Black Hills/Deadwood area. He was also an accomplished poet.
