In 1888, Barry photographed members of the Second Sioux Commission against a backdrop containing a wooded landscape and tipis. There are many near duplicates in this series... Major McLaughlin, Reverend Cleveland, Judge Wright and Captain Pratt about to bilk the Lakota out of more land. You'll notice Barry still using other familiar props, like the little wall. George Faribault, the head farmer at Standing Rock, and John Grass John Grass John Grass And again... Slightly different to the one above Crazy Walking A slight variant on the above image Thunder Hawk Rain in the Face With Barry And again. With his wife. And again. Despite similar hair decoration and the band of beads, this one, though sometimes credited to Barry, is in a Scott mount. Could be either... Red Fish and sons Good Horse and wife. The quilled collar is worn by other men in this series. Good Horse The man on the right wears the same quilled collar as Good Horse Here is he again - unidentified, unfortunately. Unidenitified White Face and family Flying By and family There are a few more that I'll post later in the week...

Grahamew: James McLaughlin was the third Indian Agent at Spirit Lake. He moved on from there to Standing Rock. George Fairbault was the Head Farmer at Spirit Lake and moved with McLaughlin. I hate to speak ill of the dead but McLaughlin was not squeaky clean as far as hiring relatives and doing all he could to 'Advance" the Indian. He was no friend of the Indian ( he wrote the book "My friend the Indian". Toksta ake Louie

Annie Oakley. Maybe the Wild West Show was in town? Another 'theatrical' picture. And another - in questionable taste. Unidentified. I suspect these rather obviously posed pictures are connected - and probably with the Good Horse and White Face photos posted above. The Good Horse and White Face families. White Face's wife. Here's an oddity - a woman dressed in male clothing. Not entirely sure she's Indian, either. Barry did photograph posed figures for an illustrated version of Hiawatha, but I thought that project occurred after he had left Standing Rock. Another somewhat theatrical photo - Yellow Lark, a 'Dakota', according to the records in Denver Public Library. Hmmm... And again. And one more... O'Briens (?) Unidentified. Unidentified. Unidentified. Unidentified.
