ladonna ... I sent you a personal message. I am looking for a source for genuine Native American bows for hunting. I don't want replicas. I actually want a real bow that can be used for shooting animals. I would prefer a traditional Native American bow ... but don't know anyone who makes them.
Update: I did find a couple of Webpages with custom-made bows, incl native american designs. But prices ran in the range of $900-$1200. This is too expensive for me. So I will be ordering a recurve bow from Europe and practicing with that. I expect to hunt wild hogs and pheasant in California this year.
thanks, dT

There are several books available in Germany that deal with Bow building. However, the authors seem to be English or American. Here are the books and authors: "The Traditional Bowyer's Bible" by Paul Comstock, Gabriela Cosgrove and Tim Baker, Lyons & Burford (1994) "Bent Stick Making & Using Wooden Hunting Bows" by Paul Comstock (1988) "Traditional archery hunting: stories and advice about traditional bowhunting" (Kindle / English Edition) by Clay Hayes and Elizabeth Hayes This is a German Website, which deals with traditional bow building: www.jw-gpw.eu/Seiten/Seminare_Veranstaltungen/Workshop/TraditionellerBogenbau.htmlMaybe this helps a little. Toksha ake from Germany, Gregor.

Nativeartstrading.com will supply bows made in the traditional ways ,by a Lakota man. I strongly recommend a visit to this site. It is located in scotland in the UK. Sharon and Barry are the two people behind it . Sharon is ,I believe, Cherokee. they make ,to order, many items, including ,shields, headress/warbonnets, shirts,,bows coup sticks etc.
