Cheyenne captured 1869 Younger Bear-Chief Comes In Sight-Island Pg 265 "The Fighting Cheyennes" Grinnell Dull Knife-Fat Bear-Big Head or Curley Head Curly Hair b 1819 Slim Face b 1789 pg 264 "The Fighting Cheyennes" Grinnell There seems to be some confusion about the men who were captured. They are the three who were photographed and whose picture has been printed in a multitude of books on the early west, with a great many captions. The names are differently given by different people. E hyoph’sta says they were Younger Bear-Chief Comes In Sight-Island Bent gives the name of the man Island as Lean Man, and old Two Moons of the Northern Cheyenne identifies the picture as that of the brother of his mother. Pg 264-5 "The Fighting Cheyennes" Grinnell Note;for another account of the report see, report, Secretary of Interior (1869-1870), 524 525, where the men arrested are said to have been young men. They were middle aged or old men. LaDeane Attachments:

Hi miller7513
the three captured men were Lean Face, Fat Bear and Curly Hair. Lean Face is also called Slim Face or Dull Knife by army officers. Curly Hair is also known as Big Head. All three men were captured by Custer on the Sweetwater River in Texas Panhandle,in 1869. This photograph was likely taken by W. S. Soule at Camp Supply in 1869. Grinnell had stated, this photograph was taken in Fort Dodge, Kansas, this was a mistake for that photograph.
