Greetings Dietmar. Not bragging by any means however, Rhoda was my wife in my third marriage. The best of the three. Unfortunately, our time together was cut way short. In April, we would have been together 10 years but, only married for 8 years. Rhoda battled over the past five years with first; her 4th stroke, lung cancer. Then, diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer. A few months into chemo, she had a 5th stroke. Next she broke her back in 2 places and under went surgery to repair that. The poor thing couldn't catch a break and was "tough as nails" through the whole thing. One of her last wishes was to pass at home. I made sure that happened. However, it was absolutely terrible to watch. In her last 11 days, she ate about 6 cookies and 1 slice of homemade bread. After she quit eating, she quit drinking and talking. May she R.I.P. now. I will love her forever.
Miss you and Thank you sir.

P.S. Dietmar, With part of my tax refund, I am hoping to buy a used drum set. From past experience, playing drums is the best physical therapy that I know of after, surgery on a arm, etc.. Furthermore, I need it for mental therapy as well.

I had the honor of meeting Dave Yakima Chief at a gathering in Bristol Connecticut in 1997. Dave gave a talk about the Lakota people and he spoke about a vision that he had during one of his vision quests. In the vision he said that he went to a valley that was filled with people of all different colors. He was looking for the Lakota people. Someone spoke to him and said the Lakota people are hard to find. Then Dave told us that some of the Lakota may be back today but not necessarily in red bodies. After his talk he did a prayer ceremony around a fire for Mother Earth. He touched those at the gathering with a stick that had eagle feathers on one end and a buffalo tail on the other end. I was moved by his humbleness, openness and kindness. During the gathering that night the deep feeling of Mitakuye Oyasin was present. Thank you Kim for bringing him to my mind. I wish the best for you and everyone here in all the struggles of life. May the love that connects us all, help us on our journeys. With Respect, Karla Karla, Great to hear from you ! You were fortunate to have known Dave and your memories of him sound like very spiritual and very cool memories. I regret not ever having/getting the chance to meet my relative Dave Yakima Chief. I have been fortunate to read about some of Dave's lifetime accomplishments. Learning and discovering some of my family history, would not have ever been possible without..., Dave's willingness to share family information with, a few selected individuals. I am so thankful. Unfortunately, Dave had walked on, before I even had the chance to contact him and discuss whether, he would like to meet in person sometime, etc.. If, you would ever want to share more memories about Dave, I would love to hear them. Sorry, it took so long to respond. With Kind Regards, kakarns My father was Dave Yakima Chief, I'm his youngest son Wakinyan Chief. Recently have been trying to trace back my lineage and it's been hard to find. I found this thread by looking through my allotment papers and have allotments from Charging Eagle, Charging Thunder, "Mato Cigala" Mato Cikala Little Bear, Lays Hard, and Long Necked Yankton. I was able to use ancestry.com to find some lineage, my grandfather Elbert who I found out was named at birth "Naca" which means "Headman" or "Chief" which is where our name comes from. His parents were Thunderbird and Rising Sun, but it stops there. I do know that my name comes from Thunderbird, but I don't know anything else besides that. Dave's mother was Hattie Fills the Pipe who's father was "Fills the pipe" who took the name Silas, and was one of the sons of Sunka Luta aka Red Dog. I'd really like to know more and any information you can share would be greatly appreciated. -Wakinyan Chief
