My family has passed down a family lore of my great great grandmother being a descendant of Sitting Bull. Her name was Mary Ida Johnston. She was born Feb 3, 1872 in Rosebud, Todd County, South Dakota. It was told that she was "kicked" off the reservation due to marrying a white man. Can anyone clear this up or direct me as to where I can get any type of clarity or confirmation to this?? I would so greatly appreciate any help or direction. I thank you in advance for your time, consideration and help. I also look forward to learning, discussing and meeting some of you via mail

Im going to tell right now she would not be related to Hunkpapa Sitting Bull. He was married to Winyanluta-Red Woman in 1872 who died in childbirth with her child a son, no daughter was born to them and was not living in the Rosebud area, which is about a weeks ride by horse back from us. There are so many stories out there that some families carry down that are just not true, no one was ever kicked off the reservation for marrying a whiteman, We get one story a week about someone claiming to be a descendnat of Sitting Bull, there is only one family who is the direct descendnat of Sitting Bull and that is Ernie LaPoint.
