I have this photo for a long time but only recently found identifications for it. First, there is a similar photo taken on the same occasion at the then called Devils Lake Reservation, North Dakota, around 1893 in Mark Diedrich/Louis Garcia´s book "Little Fish" (Coyote books, page 60). Two chiefs (Left Hand Bear/Matocatka and Stands Steady/Ecanazeka/Icanajinka) are in that photograph with Little Fish and many of the policemen shown also in the above photo. Second, the Smithsonian has the photo with identifications as I have written them on the uploaded picture, with the exception of the man sitting in the center. I would assume the man is Cut Head Yanktonai chief Waanatan. Does anyone know if this is correct? Thanks.

The whiteman on sitting on the left is Frank Palmer an ex-soldier stationed at Ft. Totten. He later became a store owner.
The Indian Police standing far left Tyakmani ? spelled incorrectly. Canpaksan = tree Stump, Sanica = One Sided or John Smith. Waanatan II a Sisitun, son of Waanatan I (Charger) the famous Yanktonai chief killed in 1840.
