Can anyone tell me how to get my original Apache cabinet cards appraised/ In US dollars? I have the Chihuahua photo on p.259 of Sweeney's new book, the Nana Photo on p.264 of his new book, the Dandy Jim Buehman stereo photo with Dandy Jim crouching on the far right, and the Diablo card in front of his wickiup which is on this site under " diablo and....> In fact it is that exact card with the scotch tape on it. I traded professional services for those cards, but the Apaches might wonder whether I got a "good trade" for those cards. PS all cards are in good condition....the Dandy Jim card has ding out of the orange cardboard on the right side, but the photo is not affected. Thanks for your expert input on this!

So, No one on this site has any idea how to get the photos appraised? That's amazing, considering there are hundreds of Apache photos here. Do any of you actually own any of these photos you post?. Some of you are listed as "experts" Certainly Jeroen, as a western artist, must know something about this, in fact I have visited his web page and there is one painting that is really cool. Well Spring is almost here! Enjoy!

So How many of you so-called experts actually OWN original Apache photos? Probably none!! Even though you don't seem to hold the many knowledgeable people here in high esteem, I'm still inclined to a more extensive response. Well, I think the images you see here should be for everyone to enjoy. I don't understand why we shouldn't share images with each other that we've collected over many years from digital and print sources. Some may have been freely accessible, for others we paid. But everything was done with dedication and by investing a lot of time in search/research. And yes, there are quite a few experts here, old and new ones, from anywhere around the world. I am very delighted that we were able to welcome some experts from "The People" as well. Having a deep knowledge of culture and history, and having an interest in contemporary photography doesn't necessarily mean you have to own hundreds or thousands of original images. I actually own a lot of digital and paper prints from museums etc., but only one original (a rare Buehman stereoview of a Western Apache scout), which has been posted here. I have been interested and have researched Chiricahua, Western Apache and Yavapai culture and history for the past fourteen years, half of my life. Over this time I have amassed between 120 and 150 books, pamphlets, excerpts from archives, and some personal experience when it comes to our N'dee friends. I have spent a lot of money on that, and since I haven't yet found the Spanish gold in the Sierra Madre that Yahnozha knew of, I'm neither willing nor able to spend ten-thousands of dollars on original stereoviews, boudoir cards, tintypes, lantern slides etc. I, like many others, collect out of fascination and for research, and I think cultural/historical/anthropological material should be available to anyone interested in it. People here will gladly help you with cultural and historical knowledge. I don't think you will find many collectors of originals here, but I know someone who might be able to help you out. Here's the link to his website - www.vintagephoto.com.

Be cool, guys. Kayitah write wery well about his story. The story of my hobbies is very similar. Why are we do it? I don't saw Arizona, and I don't saw Old Mexico (and New Mexico too), why I need Apache History? I don't now. It's More interestingly question. Naiches.

Same than Naiche2. We do not know why but it is a passion (like movie, sports, History, paint,etc..) borned on us.
On my part I am not an expert, i never go to USA (maybe one time) I just know much about Native American than a lot of people around me. And discover a different culture and History than mine alowed me, I hope, to become an open mind person. And, on my case, it allowed certainly me to meet my wife.
This is a sort of original passion (for 26 years for me) that grow on us and hard to share. This forum helped us to share with other people that know more than us.
Sure we have our opinion but it is not the thruth. We do that because we like and want to understand apache culture and their history, not to impose our thought about that.
And "expert" in this forum is based on the quantity of message we posted not the knowledge we have. To finish it is the more interresting forum I found on the net about native American, done with respect, contradiction with sharing people. PS: I have to import books in english from US to learn more about Native Americans. Coeurrouge from France.

You know, I feel really bad! This has been such a great site, and I hope I don't get kicked off! I was just frustrated that there is such a fountain of knowledge here about the Apaches and so many photos...... You are all "experts" and I assure you I am not. I do live in Apacheria, and I have a library of thirty books on the Apaches, all by authors all of you know, and just bought Sweeny's new book. Anyway, sorry if I offended.... PS the link to vintagephotos was exactly what I was looking for and that guy's shop is 2.5 hours from my house, in Mesa, AZ Enjuh, Tiswin

By the way, the same guy that owns the store also wrote a book (I think he wrote several books, but this might be of special interest to you: Photographers in Arizona, 1850-1920: A History & Directory) that you might be interested in. I don't think anyone wants you to get banned from here, and I don't see why that should happen. Don't worry. I believe that most misunderstandings etc. appear when people are communicating through written language rather than really speaking with each other. Enjoy the forum, best wishes Marco

Thanks all, I have read widely on the Apaches, but will never match you guys. I have an appointment with Jeremy on Apr. 28 in Mesa AZ to have him appraise the photos I have....for all I know they may be forgeries. That guy is actually an expert on Apache photos and has a list a mile long on his website of who he does appraisals, including the Arizona State Historical Society. So if any of you have photos you would like appraised, even just out of curriosity, you should contact him. Thanks for being my friend! Tiswin
