Great article helps people understand the struggles we face on reservations and our identity as a people!! When people hear jewish they see the ghosts of all the bodies during the holocaust, when they hear African American they see the ghosts of slavery, but when it comes to natives they just see drunk, lazy, freeloaders!! They don't see the dead babies or women!!

To the lakota this battle was called battle of hundred in hand and this is why. The lakotas and sahiyela devised a battle plan to lure the soldiers out of the fort but were unsure of the outcome so, The minneconju leader called upon the winkte society for help. Up came riding pretty dress and was asked to help so she took a black cloth and covered her face but cut a hole in the mouth and put an eagle bone whistle in it. Then pretty dress started to blow the whistle and and ride zig zag back and forth when she passed back she looked at the war chiefs and said I have ten do you want them. They all replied no there are many warriors here do you think that will be enough for so many!! So she rode back and forth blowing the whistle with her face covered four more times on the forth she stopped in front of the chiefs again got off her horse like her hands were full. Then pretty dress looked at them and said I have caught a hundred in my hand do you want them!!! After this they all knew that victory would come!!!

It is mandatory in schools as in high school you are required to take four years of lakota language to graduate. Mike Carlow Is doing great things with the language as in November he was the lakota/dakota/nakota language summit!! Also the oglala lakota college controls all of the preschool and developed a program for the toddlers to learn early!!
